FA Thank You Party Saturday

The FA will hold a Thank You Party from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. this Saturday, November 19 at Hangar 9 (511 S Illinois Avenue). All who supported the FA during the last couple of weeks are invited to share a little food and drink and celebrate our joint achievement in reaching the tentative agreement on the Faculty Association contract. Spouses or partners are welcome to come as well.

Question and clarification: So Dave, do you mean to say that not all FA members are invited--i.e. those who didn't support the FA during the last couple of weeks? Clearly, according to your posting the FSN folks are not invited. The party may be a good idea but if it is done under the auspices of the FA all members (regardless of whether or not they supported the FA during the last couple of weeks should be invited--don't you think?

  2. If you want to quibble about whose invited, you might as well broaden the definition of "support," Anon 8:42. In many ways, the FSN did support the strike, although not in ways they are likely to acknowledge or appreciate. I doubt any faculty who choose to show up to this event will be turned away.

Alas, I am out of town at a conference and will not be able to attend. I am sorry to miss this opportunity to socialize with colleagues across the campus with whom the strike made and strengthened connections.

  3. Well, I went to the FSN cook out, so I will take this opportunity to invite them to join us at Hanger 9. We can debate who is moral and who provides better food! ;^)

  4. I doubt that hot dogs will compare to whatever a proper establishments has to offer.

  5. Don't mean to quibble but my question had to do with whether all dues paying members of the FA were invited or whether only those dues paying members of the FA who "supported" the strike by going on strike--and joined the picket lines are.

  6. All members, whether they struck or not, are welcome, as far as I am concerned, though the party does have a theme. The mention of "supporters" was meant to include those outside the FA membership. We won't have a list at the door.

  7. If any of the FSN turn up, then we should take the advice of the Teamsters very seriously!

  8. And what is that advice?

  9. A slap on the wrist with the comment, "Naughty! Naughty!"

I will review and post comments as quickly as I can. Comments that are substantive and not vicious will be posted promptly, including critical ones. "Substantive" here means that your comment needs to be more than a simple expression of approval or disapproval. "Vicious" refers to personal attacks, vile rhetoric, and anything else I end up deeming too nasty to post.
